Only one year after their triumphant debut at Manama Cultural Hall, the Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin has returned to the Kingdom of Bahrain. Upon initiative of H.E. Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, a special gala concert took place at Bahrain National Theater on November 26.

Representing the essence of the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics, the orchestra includes their most skilled musicians. Such as Prof. Rainer Honeck, renowned soloist and concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonics, who enthralled his audience with Mozart’s famous Violin Concerto in A-major KV 219.

The program furthermore included the latter’s first Symphony No. 1 in E flat major, KV 16, written when the legendary child prodigy was a mere eight years old. After an intermission, the spellbound audience was treated to a jewel of Russian Romanticism, Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for strings in C-major, op. 48. Thundering applause greeted the musicians, culminating in standing ovations after several encores.

We wish to express our gratitude to the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) President, H.E. Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, as well as BACA Head of Events, Sama Mattar, for enabling and organising this extraordinary concert. The musicians greatly appreciated the more than worthy welcome and warm hospitality they were treated to. Furthermore, we would like to thank all musicians as well as the orchestra administration for their great co-operation. Last but not least, we thank a high-spirited audience, whose enthusiasm proves Bahrain National Theatre once again a crowning achievement in the Kingdom’s successful efforts to enrich local culture.
