Rieder Art Consulting was thrilled to organise Maestro Mario Dobernig’s first public appearance in Doha. On 18 March 2017, he inaugurated the prestigious Oud Festival with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra at the sold-out Katara Opera House. The four-day event featured a host of major oud soloists, lute makers and music groups from all around the world.
Performing music by Mohammed Al Majri, the opening night boasted four of today’s foremost oud virtuosos: Sarhan Eten (Turkey), Muhanned Nasr (Syria), Nada Mahmoud and Basheer Al Gharbi (Tunisia). The concert proved an enormous success with the public and also stirred up great interest at its live broadcast on Qatar Television.
As founder and artistic director of the Melbourne Art of Sound Orchestra, young Austrian conductor Mario Dobernig has a refreshingly unusual approach to music:
He is receptive to nearly every style, ranging from the classical concert platform to the realm of electronic dance and pop music, corporate events to Latin and Indian folk music or Chinese Hymns. In his artistic career, Mario Dobernig had already conducted oud concerts before in Australia, his homebase for several years already. Being however granted “the chance of conducting oud music in an Arab country for the first time with such fantastic soloists and the Qatar Philharmonic was an especially great honour”, he says.
Rieder Art Consulting would cordially like to thank Katara, the fabulous Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and its orchestra manager Kurt Meister for their hospitality and the unique concert experience. We hope to have the pleasure of bringing Maestro Dobernig back to Doha for future concerts.
